October 9th – 15th marks the annual Baby Loss Awareness Week. During this week bereaved parents, extended families and friends in all corners of the globe, unite to commemorate their babies’ lives, knowing that thousands of others are doing the same. This week also inspires people to talk and raise awareness of this sad situation that faces so many parents – I’m sure we all know someone who’s been through this.
On the 15th of October at 7pm, many parents and families as well as thousands of other individuals worldwide take part in the Wave of Light, which encourages everyone to light a candle to commemorate babies who died during pregnancy, during the birth or soon after being born. These candles will burn for at least an hour, to commemorate the short time that these babies lit up the lives of their parents.
Sands UK is the charity responsible for collaborating the events here in the UK, and this year they are encouraging people to take part in the first digital Wave of Light, by sharing photos of their candles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #WaveOfLight.
